Title | [FAKE] De Tar Baby Alarm Clock |
Year | c.1971 |
Country | United States |
Description | Gabriel model Lux alarm clock with Disney's "De Tar Baby" on the clock face. |
Manufactured by | Robertshaw Controls Company, Lux Time Division |
Variations | Several versions exist with and without alarm bells on top and with various bases and paint schemes (see photos). Not all clocks have been verified to have been manufactured by Lux/Robertshaw (but all of the clock faces state this). |
Notes | I strongly believe that someone in the 1970s or 1980s modified original alarm clocks with these fake clock faces. The reason I feel these are not original to the clocks is that the illustration of the Tar Baby used was created in 1946 and used on the cover of the Walt Disney book "The Wonderful Tar Baby". However, the clocks themselves date to the 1960s-1970s, long after I believe Disney would have chosen to use such a clock face (and the aforementioned book was long out of print by that time). Still, these are interesting conversation pieces! |
Suggested Value | USD $20-30 |
